Newsfront/Naftiliaki, under the auspises of Martecma, organised the second Shipbuilding Conference: Building for the Future. The event was held as part of the Posidonia 2012 International Shipping Exhibition and took place in the Posidonia Exhibition Centre, Metropolitan Expo, within the Athens International Eleftherios Venizelos Airport complex, on Thursday, June 7, 2012.
The programme as a whole seemed to be very well received, and are pleased to say we have already received very positive feedback from both delegates and speakers.
Over 280 participants from 130 companies and 30 countries attended the event.
Through presentations and interaction, shipbuilders, classification societies (ABS, BV, DNV, GL, LR and RINA), shipowners and panels drawn from the shipbuilders of the Far East, (DSME, Hyundai HI) plus oil majors (Shell, Castrol and Petrobras) and most importantly the audience, comprising of members of the Hellenic and the international shipping communities, provided many thoughts of what should be considered when looking for the answers to what will shape the thinking and the planning for ships of the future.
At the conclusion of a full day of inter-action, Martecma’s chairman, Takis Koutris, perhaps best summed up the conference?s work, saying: There is a great deal of confusion out there regarding the combination of regulatory demand and the technical ability to meet these demands within the required timeline.
