20th, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt — brought together key stakeholders of the maritime
community to exchange views and insights on the industry’s most pressing challenges
and opportunities. The discussion focused on critical topics such as ESG practices and
their impact on sustainable growth, the role of Smart Shipping and Digital Innovation in
enhancing efficiency, as well as strategies and pathways
towards Decarbonization and Geopolitcal Challenges.
Some keypoints from each discussion:

• Challenges: “Digital fatigue” and the need for a mindset shift in Management.
• Demand for clear regulatory frameworks to ensure a smooth transition.

Human Element

• Challenges: Different expectations of the new generation regarding work-life balance.
• Digital communication on board: Keeps contact with loved ones but reinforces seafarers’ sense of isolation.
• Essential skills for seafarers: Operation of ship automation systems and use of alternative fuels.

Geopolitical Challenges
• Geopolitical developments affect shipping through conflicts and new trade decisions.
• Restructuring of trade routes and increased transportation costs due to sanctions.
• Need to enhance maritime security and diversify supply chains.
• Development of new trade corridors, such as the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC).
